According to wikipedia New Amsterdam resident Jan Peeck made the first contact with the native tribal people of this area possibly around the early 1640s. Peeck's Kil (from "stream" in Dutch) thus became the recognized name for this locale.
Peekskill is a city in Westchester County, New York. It is situated on a bay along the east side of the Hudson River. As of the 2000 census, there were 22,441 people, 8,696 households and 5,348 families residing in the city. Median income for a household in the city was $47,177 and the median income for a family was $52,645.
Peekskill train station provides commuter service to New York City (41 miles away) via the Metro-North Railroad (see train schedule).
